LIVERPOOL AIMING TO END UNBEATEN RUN

Liverpool midfielder Stewart Downing has said that the club will be looking to bring an end to the unbeaten start Manchester City have made to the season.

Both teams will be facing each other at Anfield this season, and it will provide Liverpool with the perfect opportunity to bring Manchester City’s perfect start to the season to an end. Manchester city are the only club across all four divisions of English football to remain unbeaten at this stage of the season. This, according to Stewart Downing, gives them the will to succeed against Manchester city.

A number of teams have failed to do this against Manchester city and this also includes Manchester United as well. However, Stewart Downing believes that Liverpool are much better shape than Manchester United to take advantage of the weaknesses present within the Manchester City squad. Manchester City have gone 12 games without defeat in the Premier League, and as a result, sit proudly at the top of the standings with a five point advantage over second placed Manchester United. Even though the prospect of Liverpool catching them anytime soon look extremely thin, Stewart Downing says that Liverpool will ultimately challenge for the title this season.

“It’s going to have to be a top performance. They are a top team with many, many great players, not just in the 11 but on the bench. I think we should look forward to it and say ‘Why can’t we be the first team to beat them?’ We are going to have to be right up for it and start well. If we don’t they will punish you, which they have shown against the top teams this season. But we have belief in our own ability,” he said. Stewart Downing has played in every match for Liverpool this season.
