CHANGE OF FORTUNE

Liverpool midfielder Stewart Downing has said that a win in the FA Cup final against Chelsea will totally change fortunes of the season for Liverpool.

Liverpool have the opportunity to complete the cup double after a decade since the club achieve this same feet. Liverpool have already won the Carling cup this season, but can add to the trophy by winning the FA Cup when they take on Chelsea at the Wembley on May 5.

The Carling cup victory over Cardiff city was the first trophy that Liverpool had won in more than six years. Stewart Downing has said that it is a long time for Liverpool to go without a trophy and they can use the Carling cup success as a springboard for more success in the future.

Stewart Downing has been one of the main players criticised the Liverpool squad this season. It is thought that he might have cost the club at around £ 18 million in transfer fees, but he is yet to repay the transfer fee worth on the pitch. It has been a very disappointing season for Liverpool as a club due to the fact that they are currently struggling to stay in the top half of the table itself. Many think that it is time for manager Kenny Dalglish to go, but Stewart Downing has blamed the players.

“We have to go there and win because that makes it even more memorable. Some of our players have said they would take two medals over fourth place and I couldn’t agree more. We could finish in the top four and get knocked out of the Champions League in the first round, so you have nothing to show. We are building a good team here,” he said ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday.
