DOWNING HAS A FUTURE

After struggling to establish himself as a first team regular that Liverpool after his £ 20 million arrival from Aston Villa, the former Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing has been demonstrating that he has a future at Anfield with some brilliant performances of late.

Recently, the arrival of the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge has worked in favour of Liverpool, as they have been able to score a lot of goals. This has subsequently seen them close the gap on the likes of Arsenal and Everton in the table. Downing has said that the presence of Sturridge has had a positive influence on the team.

He has also held the partnership that has already formed between Sturridge and Luis Suarez. Despite having only at the start of January, Sturridge has been able to settle extremely well at Anfield. He has already scored four goals in just five appearances for the team, while he has also helped Suarez get several goals as well. Sturridge recently stated that it is his objective to the season to help Spurs win the Golden Boot award. Liverpool are currently 10 points behind the top four positions, but Downing reckons that they will be able to catch the rivals if Sturridge continues to maintain this incredible partnership with Suarez.

“I think Daniel has been a good signing for us and although we missed him against Wigan, in the games he has played he gives us something different. The way they play, [Sturridge] is on the shoulder with Luis coming off, they are a nightmare for defenders. If we can get a good partnership with them going then we have a chance,” said Downing. Suarez has been by far the most impressive player in the Premier league, as he has scored 28 goals in all competitions this season.
